UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts ESE/IES examination for recruiting engineers for various government organizations in various sectors such as Power, Railways, Roadways, Construction, Telecommunication. UPSC conducts Engineering Services Examination (ESE) for Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. The Recruitment process of UPSC ESE/IES contains three states which are as explained below:
UPSC ESE/IES Recruitment process contains three stages:
· State – 1 – Preliminary Examination
· State – 2 – Mains Examination
· State – 3 – Personality Test
Preliminary & Main examination both are part of the written test. The preliminary examination is of objective type while Mains examination is of conventional type.

In the Personality Test special attention will be paid to assessing the candidate’s capacity for leadership, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy, powers of practical application, and integrity of character.
The commission has the discretion to fix minimum qualifying marks in any or all the papers of the examination.
